I've just made all previous LJ posts private. I may consider bringing some of them back at some point, or I may just bow out of blogging. I have removed my MySpace blogs and profile altogether. I continue to have my semipro blog on my employer's Web site, but I think it will become inactive while I process a recent disturbing blogging-related event.

I do believe in bloggery, and in people's rights to blog openly about what's on their minds. That said, I have learned in a most distressing way that there can be unforeseen consequences to the blabby blogger at the hands of people who don't share that philosophy.

I will say here that to the best of my knowledge and belief, my recent and abrupt change of practice wasn't brought about by any relative of mine, any real-life friend of mine, anyone on my LJ friends list, or any Scrabble player. Someone made mischief for me, and my best guess is Peeves the poltergeist. I'll also say that this mischief doesn't threaten me in any physical way. It's upsetting, but other than affecting my blogging habits, it's not life-changing.
